As for the poll, I use cell phone at work or elsewhere, and laptop at home. Probably the cell slightly more frequently.

Re the poll, I use all three. I've had text inputting issues on my phone in the past; it'll be interesting to see if they disappear with this update. I never tried to figure out if they were caused by the phone or the software.
-
The site looks brilliant. Nice update. Couple of bugs I've noticed:
- 'Recent Threads' under 'Recent' drop down menu seems to be broken when not logged in (the formatting is way off). It looks ok when logged in.
- 'Activate light style' and 'Activate dark style' do exactly the opposite. You may want to switch the descriptions.
-
When I insert a word into text that I've typed into a post, and use autofill to insert the word, the last letter drops off of the word. It happened in a post a few minutes ago as well as in this one. I'm using an Android tablet. Not sure if it's the tablet or the new software, but it's never happened before with any software on the tablet.
Otherwise, the new layout is quite nice!

Thanks for the comments. Probably there are more bugs still to swat:

1 - There is something about the theme switcher I do not understand. I noted the behavior you mentioned and attempted to improve it but now the moon does not appear and the descriptions are still wrong. Will have to dig into that further but for now the sun goes back and forth.
2 - I think the problem on Recent threads when not logged in has been addressed.

I am noting some issues with text input on a tablet too but I can't figure out how to address them. I will post about this on the software designer's site and see what we can do.
thanks again!

I just posted a new poem in the Epicurean poetry thread, and it all came out right. I suspect the glitch was just part of the transition to the new format.
-
Another thing I'm noticing is that when I click on a link to a post in the Unread Posts list, it takes me to the top of the page that contains the unread post. Prior to the update it would go directly to the post, which is much more convenient when the threads get long. This is on an Android tablet; not sure about other devices.
-
Yes Godfrey , that is really irritating! Mobile and Desktop.

I have noticed that too and will definitely investigate!

It seems to me that this problem of the unread link not jumping to the last post is intermittent, rather than happening every time. Anyone have it happening every time?
-
Re the poll: I use a laptop, never a notebook and seldom a cellphone (just for a quick look, never to participate).
-
Regarding polls...it's a learning experience still for me...I should have included an option for multiple ways of accessing the forum (also I wanted to find out if my hunch was true, that most people use cellphones).
The forum appearance and experience is different when using cellphone compared to tablet or laptop. I think it is much better now for cellphone since the upgrade, because the various tool icons are more visable and user friendly.
Depending on the type of device used, perhaps we still need to compare and contrast between multiple device types to determine if something is missing or could be improved.
-
Cassius I'd like to request that we add back in "Posts" on each person's profile page, which appeared before but is now missing (I used this a lot to navigate to something I had posted within the last few days/week).

Finding Things At EpicureanFriends.com
What's the best strategy for finding things on EpicureanFriends.com? Here's a suggested search strategy:
- First, familiarize yourself with the list of forums. The best way to find threads related to a particular topic is to look in the relevant forum. Over the years most people have tried to start threads according to forum topic, and we regularly move threads from our "general discussion" area over to forums with more descriptive titles.
- Use the "Search" facility at the top right of every page. Note that the search box asks you what section of the forum you'd like to search. If you don't know, select "Everywhere." Also check the "Search Assistance" page.
- Use the "Tag" facility, starting with the "Key Tags By Topic" in the right hand navigation pane, or using the "Search By Tag" page, or the "Tag Overview" page which contains a list of all tags alphabetically. We curate the available tags to keep them to a manageable number that is descriptive of frequently-searched topics.
