An article by DeWitt on one aspect of Epiurean epistemology. In his commentary on Philodemus' "On Methods of Inference," DeLacy notes that this article differs from his own interpretation of this part of the subject. The issues are very complex however so it's not easy to reduce that difference to a short summary.

For anyone unclear on why DeWitt uses idols, this is merely a convenient English-sounding transliteration of ειδώλων (from περί ειδώλων) "eidōlōn" (genitive of είδωλον) for the "reflections" or "representations" of objects.
