No, there are no weapons or armies! :)

There will be a day dedicated to the study of Epicureanism as it was, as a history of philosophy. And a day dedicated to those who want to live Epicureanism today, if necessary also adapting it to the times and needs of each individual.

I'm not sure but Latin end greek poetry was more similar at modern songs than at modern poetry.

  • ⟐ as the symbol of the philosophy of Epicurus

    • michelepinto
    • March 18, 2021 at 11:59 AM

I received an email from a reader of epicuro.org who prefers to remain anonymous with an original proposal that immediately thrilled me. Here is his email:

Epicurean philosophy is among the greatest movements of thought in history, on a par with the most common religions.

Unlike religions (e.g. Christianity) and other more recent movements (e.g. Communism), it does not have a symbol with which it can be identified around the world.

I therefore thought of a symbol that could condense the main points of Epicurus' thought, in a graphic that is as minimalist as possible.

    The result is this: ⟐

A rhombus with a dot inside.

The four sides of the rhombus represent the quadrifugaco, the way to happiness according to Epicurus.

The point, on the other hand, represents the Democritean atom at the basis of Epicurean physics and the key concept of clinamen, the random movement of atoms.

This symbol corresponds to the UNICODE U + 27D0 standard so it is copyright free.

    What do you think?

Thank you Michele - is this kind of thing still regularly used in Italy?

No, we do not use it.

I'm sorry. The transalation is in Italian. And is expensive:

I have the handout. Send me a mail.

I followed it, but my poor English did not permit me to enjoy it completely.

Epicurus' technique of multiple explanations in physics now seems much more modern and effective than I ever thought possible.

There is also a new translation of all Epicurean's writings in Italian an a news meeting in few mounts.

Sorry! In Italy we say "divulgazione" when we mean To make a lot of people know someting.

There is a contrast between divulgation (disclosure) and academia.

The first is within everyone's reach, simple, sometimes simplified.

The second is of a higher level, but difficult to understand.

    Senigallia's Festival is free! :)
But they make research. we make divulgation.

There are two reasons, the first is that the interventions that the professors make may contain errors which are then corrected in the discussion.

The second is that then (after many months, sometimes years) the proceedings come out and the publisher is afraid that by publishing the videos they will sell fewer copies.

I'm pretty sure the videos will not be released after this. Sorry.,
