Request For Volunteers To Assist With Quiz Section

We are now requiring that new registrants confirm their request for an account by email.  Once you complete the "Sign Up" process to set up your user name and password, please send an email to the New Accounts Administator to obtain new account approval.

    Over the years I've noticed that our "Quiz" section is pretty popular, even though we've done very little to improve it or promote it. If you have the time, I'd like to encourage you to consider compiling a list of questions and answers that we can use to expand the Quiz section and make it more useful.

    All we really need to make it better are new questions of general interest, followed by a set of three or four multiple choice answers, only one of which is correct.

    If you have the time and interest to work on such a project, send me a message in the conversation system, or post below, and we'll gladly incorporate your suggestions into new quizzes. I can't promise to incorporate all suggestions, as no doubt some will be better than others, but even suggestions that require modification will be fuel for improving the system.

    Especially if you're new to reading Epicurus and are finding new discoveries to be particularly interesting, let us know your suggestions as those will no doubt help others as well.

    I've hesitated to respond because I am so new here and think of myself as a student not a teacher. I do want to help, though, and in my spare time I put together 6 additional questions and answers to add to the De Witt quiz. This weekend I could certainly come up with 5 or 6 more.

    I've read the De Witt book three times (twice a few years ago and once again recently) so I think I have enough familiarity with it to extract some good material for a quiz. If I could have someone check me for accuracy I think it would be fine.

    Give me a way to send you the Q&A and I'll send what I have this weekend.

    Oh that's great and we will very much appreciate your help! Let me set up a shared document that we can all work on together, and I will send a link by "conversation" to you and anyone else who is willing to help.

    So just for clarification, I have set up a "conversation" with those who volunteer to help with Quiz creation, and we'll use that conversation thread to tell each other about updates and discuss the details of the quiz questions. It would probably undercut the "fun" if we posted each comment and thereby gave away all the questions and answers before they were used more publicly.

    So we'll continue to take in this thread discussion of those who wish to volunteer in the project, but the thread won't expand on a day to day basis as we will move that part to a private discussion. If you wish to add yourself to the conversation list and participate in updating the list, just post here and we'll add you to the conversation.

Finding Things At EpicureanFriends.com

What's the best strategy for finding things on EpicureanFriends.com? Here's a suggested search strategy:

  • First, familiarize yourself with the list of forums. The best way to find threads related to a particular topic is to look in the relevant forum. Over the years most people have tried to start threads according to forum topic, and we regularly move threads from our "general discussion" area over to forums with more descriptive titles.
  • Use the "Search" facility at the top right of every page. Note that the search box asks you what section of the forum you'd like to search. If you don't know, select "Everywhere." Also check the "Search Assistance" page.
  • Use the "Tag" facility, starting with the "Key Tags By Topic" in the right hand navigation pane, or using the "Search By Tag" page, or the "Tag Overview" page which contains a list of all tags alphabetically. We curate the available tags to keep them to a manageable number that is descriptive of frequently-searched topics.
