Hi, there are 2 Essays I keep thinking about for a long time.
I think it deals with a provocative critique of a naive view and approach regarding "Happiness". The whole Substack of David Pinshof seems to have the goal to be paradox and provocative but pure naturalistic, he reminds me a little bit of an modern Epicurus who confronts /challenges traditional believes, similiar to Epicurus in his time.
I believe Epicurean philosophy actually resolves some of these points (eg. Happiness as an abstract concept instead of Pleasure/Pain, Difference between Desire and Pleasure, prudent pursuing of Pleasure ), while others may pose a challenge or perhaps warrant questioning (can Happiness be reached, is it a goal or an evolutionary trick....).
What do you think about it ? That are the Essays, he has also an Podcast about Evolutionary Psychology:
