Hi Everyone, Twentieth Gathering is this next Saturday!

This month's graphic announcement is a nod to the upcoming Olympics. To read about the ancient Greek origin, check out the wiki.

The following is from the Olympics website:

    Quote

The Olympic Torch Relay will culminate on 26 July 2024 with the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games. After an unforgettable parade of athletes along the Seine, spectators and television audiences will witness the final torchbearer igniting the cauldron to officially open the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

After two weeks of athletic achievements and celebrations at the Games, the Olympic flame will be extinguished, but the torch will endure.

This month's Twentieth agenda: Epicurean commemoration and discussion.

In the graphics, the month should be July instead of August.

I'm going to miss few of the meetings as I'm away until the end of the month. See you all in August.

As Joshua mentioned above, about Apollo 11, ...this is from Wikipedia:

    Quote

Apollo 11 (July 16–24, 1969) was the American spaceflight that first landed humans on the Moon. Commander Neil Armstrong and Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin landed the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle on July 20, 1969, at 20:17 UTC, and Armstrong became the first person to step onto the Moon's surface six hours and 39 minutes later, on July 21 at 02:56 UTC. Aldrin joined him 19 minutes later, and they spent about two and a quarter hours together exploring the site they had named Tranquility Base upon landing. Armstrong and Aldrin collected 47.5 pounds (21.5 kg) of lunar material to bring back to Earth as pilot Michael Collins flew the Command Module Columbia in lunar orbit, and were on the Moon's surface for 21 hours, 36 minutes before lifting off to rejoin Columbia.

I find it interesting that they landed in the Sea of Tranquility... Maybe we should rename it Η θάλαττα αταραξιας hē thalatta ataraxias ^^ (hē tēs ataraxias thalatta?)

    Also on July 20

1976 – The American Viking 1 lander successfully lands on Mars.
